Breast Health Center Opens At Clara Maass Hospital In Belleville
A new "home" offering comprehensive breast care, from screenings to treatment to survivorship, is open at Clara Maass Medical Center.

A new ‘home’ offering comprehensive breast care from screenings to treatment to survivorship recently opened at Clara Maass Medical Center, a facility of RWJBarnabas Health, with a safe, socially-distant ribbon cutting event.
The Center for Breast Health and Disease Management, previously located in the Continuing Care Building at Clara Maass Medical Center is now contiguous to the medical center and is located in Suite 132 at 36 Newark Avenue in Belleville. The new patient-focused suite includes comfortable treatment and exam rooms, a consultation room for private conversations with a physician, nurse or breast nurse navigator.

“The new location of the Center for Breast Health and Disease Management will greatly assist our community in navigating their healthcare more easily in a warm, patient-centered location that provides a full complement of breast care services that are conveniently located under one roof” said Mary Ellen Clyne, president and chief executive officer of Clara Maass Medical Center.
“The new office will greatly improve access to world-class breast cancer care for many women in our community close to home” said Maria Kowzun, interim director of breast surgery at Clara Maass Medical Center. Kowzun is also surgical oncologist and assistant professor of surgery at the Division of Surgical Oncology and Section of Breast Surgery at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey (RCINJ).

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed among US women and is the second leading cause of death among women after lung cancer. In addition, in 2020, an estimated 276,480 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer with an additional 2,620 men will be diagnosed. Breast cancer remains second among cancer deaths in women.
The center is a partnership between Clara Maass Medical Center and the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey (RCINJ), New Jersey’s only National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.
