Car Fatally Strikes Lyndhurst Woman, 75, In Nutley: Police

The victim and a friend were crossing the street at the time of the fatal strike. The driver fled the scene, authorities said.

NUTLEY, NJ — A car fatally struck a woman in Nutley on Thursday night, authorities said.

According to the Nutley Police Department, a passing motorist fatally struck the woman at 7:22 p.m. on Washington Avenue near the intersection of Rutgers Place.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office issued an update on the investigation on Friday afternoon, identifying the victim as Roseann Ratz, 75, of Lyndhurst.

Prosecutors said:

"On Thursday, Oct. 15, the victim and a female friend were crossing the street in the area of Washington Avenue and Rutgers Place in Nutley when she was struck by a car that fled the scene. She was transported to St. Joseph’s University Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 7:58 p.m. [on Thursday]."

No arrests have been made as of Friday, authorities said.
