Car Plunges Into River In Nutley; Belleville Man Gets DWI: Police

A car crash in Nutley ended with a DWI charge for the driver, who escaped unharmed (but wet), authorities said.

NUTLEY, NJ — A pair of recent car crashes in Nutley ended with DWI charges for the drivers, authorities reported Friday.

According to the Nutley Police Department, the first crash took place on Sunday, when a black Honda plunged into the Passaic River near Dock Street.

Officers arriving at the scene saw the car submerged in the river from its front bumper to the windshield.

The driver, a 21-year-old Belleville resident, was able to escape the car without injury – although he was wet from the waist down, police said.

Police arrested the driver and charged him with Driving While Intoxicated, Driving without a License, Failure to Possess Insurance Card, Failure to Possess DL, Failure to Possess Registration and Careless Driving.

CRAIG PLACE CRASH

Another crash with “heavy damage” took place on Craig Place on Thursday, police said.

Nutley police arrested the driver, a 62-year-old Bloomfield man, and charged him with Driving While Intoxicated, Careless Driving and Failure to Maintain Lane.
