Dog Attacks Family In Nutley; 1-Year-Old Severely Bitten: Police

A dog jumped over a fence in Nutley and attacked a family, injuring a 1-year-old child in a stroller, a mother and a father, police said.

NUTLEY, NJ — A dog jumped over a fence in Nutley and attacked a family on Thursday, injuring a 1-year-old child in a stroller, a mother and a father, police said.

According to the Nutley Police Department, the dog was in a backyard on East Centre Street when he suddenly leaped the fence, ran out to the front of the house and attacked the three victims.

The dog bit the child on the back of the neck, causing a deep laceration and “profuse” bleeding, police said.

Emergency responders transported the father and his child to a nearby hospital. The mother of the child was also injured, police said.

Authorities issued the animal’s owner a municipal summons for dog at large. The dog was properly licensed and all of its shots were up to date, police said.

Animal control officers took custody of the dog; it will have to be quarantined for 10 days, police said.
