Dog Bites 2 People In Nutley, Animal Control Contacted: Police

A dog bit two people in Nutley, sending them to the hospital, police said.

NUTLEY, NJ — A dog recently bit two people on Montclair Avenue in Nutley, sending them to the hospital, police said.

The Nutley Police Department released the following statement on Friday:

“An animal bite incident was reported with injuries to two parties. The owner of the dog stated that after their walk this morning, the dog was in the doorway of the home when his leash was removed, but then he suddenly ran out of the doorway towards the street. He charged at a [person] walking in the street and bit them in their legs.”

“At this time, a neighbor who was taking out their garbage caught the dog’s attention, and he ran towards the sound of the garbage bin, attacking the neighbor by biting their legs and causing them to fall to the ground and injure their shoulder, as well. The dog’s owner was able to get control of dog to get him crated.”

Nutley police said both victims were transported to area hospitals to get treatment for their injuries.

Animal control officers were contacted and advised the owners to quarantine the dog for 10 days. The dog is not permitted to leave the property without a muzzle for the duration of the quarantine, police said.
