BELLEVILLE, NJ — A former Belleville wrestling standout is helping to share his skills with a new generation of athletes.

It was 10 years ago that Eastern Michigan alum Filiberto Colon won a tournament in Holmdel, advancing him to the NuWave nationals in Atlantic City.

Now, a decade after showing off his skills, Colon’s protegee, 10-year-old Kenilworth wrestler Nicky Pallitto, has done his mentor proud, winning all five of his matches with two pins during this year’s incarnation of the tourney on Oct. 22.

“Coach Fil is the best and the reason my hand gets raised in that circle,” Pallitto said. “I hope to be as great as him.”
