Lawn Sign Wars Continue In Nutley; More Trump Signs Disappear

Nutley residents are reporting stolen and vandalized political lawn signs across the township. Here's where the two latest cases took place.

NUTLEY, NJ — Nutley residents reported yet more stolen political lawn signs in the township last week as one of the most heated elections in recent history heads to the finish line.

According to the Nutley Police Department, the latest cases involve signs supporting President Donald Trump.

  • Oct. 19 – (Bloomfield Avenue) - A resident stated a political sign reading “Trump. Pence. Make America Great Again. 2020” was taken from their lawn. The victim wanted the incident documented since they had been made aware of other individuals having their signs stolen.
  • Oct. 21 – (Fischer Avenue) - Officers responded to the area in regards to a theft. The homeowner stated that their political lawn sign reading “Trump 2020” was taken from their property.

It hasn’t been the first time this election season that Trump signs have disappeared in Nutley. On Sept. 10, a resident of Mountainview Avenue told police they placed a Trump 2020 sign on their front lawn, and when they left for work, the sign was missing.

The rash of lawn sign incidents has affected other political viewpoints, as well.

On Aug. 14, the Nutley Police Department reported that a Black Lives Matter lawn sign on Prospect Street was spray painted in an incident of "criminal mischief."

Another incident involving Black Lives Matter took place on Oct. 13 on Coeyman Aveune, when two men and a woman allegedly ran onto a front lawn and stole a sign supporting the movement.
