Memorial For 4 Fallen Nutley Firefighters To Be Unveiled
When the revamped memorial is unveiled on May 28, it will represent the "proper ceremony that they were never given," a Nutley FF says.
NUTLEY, NJ — In the eyes of Nutley firefighter, Michael LaCorte, four of his peers who died in the line of duty in service of their town deserve to have their names known. And when a monument to the fallen Nutley firefighters is unveiled on Memorial Day 2018, it will represent the “proper ceremony that they were never given.”
On Monday, May 28 at 10:30 a.m. in front of fire headquarters at 228 Chestnut Street, Nutley firefighters will unveil a restored memorial featuring four deceased men’s names as part of the town’s local Memorial Day ceremonies: Thomas “Hickey” Woodruff, Frank C. Zimmerman, Andrew H. Miller and Edward Stroba.
All four firefighters died in the line of duty between the years of 1938 and 1942, LaCorte said.

LaCorte said that there was a monument built years ago for the firefighters, but it never stated their names and there was never a proper ceremony in their honor. So with the assistance of Capt. Dom DiSimone, he launched an effort to find out the names of the fallen heroes and rebuild the memorial… this time with their names.
