Nutley Comic Book Store Closing: ‘Stay Thirsty My Friends’

NUTLEY, NJ — “Stay thirsty my friends.” That was the message from the owner of Comic Explosion in Nutley, which announced its impending closure earlier this month.

The local comic book shop, located at 86 Centre Street, posted the following message on its Facebook page on June 8:

“Good evening my fellow Avengers. On Aug 1st 2019 Comic Explosion will be closed forever. Meanwhile new weekly shipments will continue to arrive until July 16th. Also, hardcovers, softcovers, and back issues will be on sale for 50% off! Stay thirsty my friends... To be continued...”

Several fans of the local store immediately expressed their dismay and thanked the owner, Scott, for providing a bright spot in their lives. Seen online:

• “Thank you, Scott, for the many years of being the best store around! You created many great memories for my son, who learned how to read on books such as The Goon, Zen The Intergalactic Ninja, and Bubba the Red Neck Werewolf. You will be missed.”
• “My two favorite stores in the early 90s were Comic Explosion and Face the Music. Good luck Scott in your next issue.”
• “My entire childhood. It’s been a great experience. Scott, a true, honest love for the craft and art. He did it right.”
• “I still have all still have most of the books I bought in HS in the the 90's. Still remember you being annoyed at me because I never cleaned out my pull box. And the cat!”
• “You are the best, Scott! You did what you loved. Bravo to you!”
