Nutley Man Accused of Attacking Girlfriend in Front of Her Son

Englewood police charged the man in connection with two alleged incidents.

A 41-year-old Nutley man was arrested early Saturday after allegedly punching and strangling his girlfriend in front of her 9-year-old son, Englewood police said.

The 29-year-old woman showed up at Englewood police headquarters with a black eye Friday night and told detectives that her boyfriend, Patrick Davis, recently attacked her on two occasions, authorities said. One alleged assault happened in Englewood while the other reportedly occurred in a vehicle at the Miller's Ale House parking lot in Paramus, where they met to talk about the trouble in the relationship.

The woman's young son looked on in both reported incidents, police said.

“The victim told us she had been in a relationship with Davis for a substantial amount of time but had never been physically assaulted by him. She agreed to meet him with hopes of working things out,” said Detective Capt. Timothy Torell.

Davis was arrested by Nutley police at his home and later turned over to Englewood detectives, police said.

He was charged with two counts of second-degree aggravated assault, two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and one count of third-degree threat to kill, stemming from incidents in Englewood and Paramus, police said.

“Domestic violence laws allow law enforcement agencies to exceed their traditional jurisdictional boundaries under certain circumstances. This was one of those circumstances," Torell said, adding Paramus police were also alerted.

Davis was ordered held at the Bergen County Jail on $150,000 full cash bail. State child welfare officials were also informed.
