Nutley Police Release List Of Damage From Tropical Storm Isaias

How bad did the destruction get? Here's a list of storm-related incidents from the Nutley Police Department.

NUTLEY, NJ — Nutley got hit hard in Tropical Storm Isaias earlier this week, which battered the area with heavy winds that tore down power lines and ripped trees out of the ground.

Just how bad did the destruction get? Here’s a list of storm-related calls the Nutley Police Department responded to on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Park Avenue – A tree from behind the building crashed through the tenant’s apartment window. Management responded to assess the damage. Code was contacted to respond regarding structural damage.

Hillside Avenue – A tree limb from a neighboring property fell on the victim’s property damaging the fence and shed. Officers were unable to assess the extent of all damage due to the tree covering the area. Neighbor was notified.

Kingsland Street – Neighbor’s tree fell across victim’s yard and damaged the house, deck, fence, garage and vehicle. Code enforcement was contacted to respond and assess structural damage. Neighbor was notified.

Renner Avenue – A tree fell on a home causing extensive damage. Building and Fire Departments responded to scene, along with PSE&G who turned electricity off. Homeowner taken to safe quarters by a family member.

New Street – Two large tree branches fell and caused damage to the front roof and gutters of the home. One of the branches was lying on the power wires to the home, causing it to hang very low. PSE&G along with Nutley Fire responded to the scene. The structure was deemed safe.

Povershon Road - Two town trees fell down onto homes located on Povershon Rd. Additionally, those trees took down four PSE&G poles and electrical wires. The entire block was without electricity. Structural damage was assessed by Code Enforcement.

Franklin Avenue – A tree branch fell on a school bus that was parked in the lot. It was not possible to assess the damage due to the branches covering the vehicle. The branch that caused the damage came from a tree in a neighboring yard. At the same location a personal vehicle sustained damage from tree branches that fell from a neighboring tree. Officers observed the driver’s side front fender was smashed with visible damage to the hood as well. No further police action needed.

Kenzel Avenue – A tree from the rear yard of the homeowner fell towards the residence and landed on the deck. The tree uprooted at ground level causing damage to the chain link fence placed around the property.

Margaret Avenue – Homeowner reported that a town tree was uprooted from the front of the home and landed on their vehicle as it was parked in the driveway. Due to the tree branches covering the entire vehicle, officers were unable to determine the extent of the damage.

High Street – A tree limb fell onto the homeowner’s fence causing damage. The tree was one from their property.

Hudson Street – A township tree limb broke off and landed on the hood of the victim’s vehicle while parked in their driveway. There were several minor dents to the hood as a result of the incident. Shade Tree was contacted to remove the branches and the insurance company advised.
