Nutley Police Warn Of Social Media Scam Involving Nude Pics

NUTLEY, NJ — Nutley police continue to warn of local scams involving sex photos and social media.

The Nutley Police Department shared a statement about the latest scam on Wednesday:

“Please be advised of a scam using Instagram and Kik messenger to find young adult models and have them send photographs of themselves, including nudes, and paying sums equivalent to approximately $50 for the photos. It is after this time that the actors ask for more provocative photos and begin threatening to expose them on the internet. When the victim declines, they try several other avenues/methods to contact, using spoofed numbers and the TextNow app. which become harassing in nature.”

Authorities said:

“Police warn that we received several reports in which residents engaged with unknown persons on their phone and online in which they consensually exchanged sexually explicit videos and photos. However, unbeknown to the victim, the video and photos were captured by the caller, who then threatened to send them to all their contacts if money is not sent. In some incidents, a third-party caller alleged the other person was a minor and that police will be called. There are several variations of the scam, however they all have the same motive, and that is to have the victim send money via wire or gift card transfers.”
