Nutley Resident Reports Texts With ‘Gruesome’ Videos To Police

A Nutley resident told police they've been getting texts with "gruesome videos" to their phone, possibly as part of a scam.

NUTLEY, NJ — A Nutley resident recently called police after they got texts with “gruesome videos” to their phone, possibly as part of a scam, authorities said.

According to the Nutley Police Department, the victim told officers on May 5 that they’ve been receiving texts with violent and disturbing videos to their phone.

The person or persons sending the videos told the victim they owed them $2,000 and listed their old addresses. The texter wrote that if they did not receive the payment immediately, they would come to the addresses and there would be a “problem,” police said.

“Even though the victim no longer lives at the listed addresses they were concerned and sent the actor $210 via Zelle,” Nutley police said. “The party is now requesting more money, which the victim now realizes is a scam.”
