Nutley Shopper Uses Fake ‘Car Towing’ To Steal Phone: Police

The victim was showing a customer an expensive phone when they exclaimed "My car is being towed" and ran out of the store, police said.

NUTLEY, NJ — A person recently stole a cell phone from a local store on Franklin Avenue by faking a car towing, Nutley police reported Friday.

According to the Nutley Police Department, the victim told officers that they were helping a customer look at phone accessories, when the person abruptly exclaimed, “My car is being towed,” and ran out of the store, heading north on Franklin Avenue.

The victim then realized that the phone, an iPhone Pro Max valued at $1,300, was gone, police said.
