On Veterans Day, Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Squadron 105 on Washington Avenue in Belleville held a Veterans Day Lunch to thank vets from the area for their service.

Each year, Belleville Township holds its Veterans Day ceremonies at the Veterans Memorial on Union Avenue. Even though the current COVID pandemic forced the township to scale down its event, American Legion Post 105, along with other local veteran’s organizations, was present at the memorial with a color guard. Following the ceremony, veterans from the area were invited to the Post for a lunch provided and served by the SAL.

This is the second year that the Sons have had this lunch, as their small ‘thank you’ to our local heroes who have served and sacrificed so much for their country. Food was provided by the membership of the SAL, family members, and local businesses. Organizations in attendance were American Legion Posts 105 and 299, VFW 493, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 366. With the weather being in the 70’s, though with a light drizzle, the lunch was moved from the hall to outside behind the Post where everyone could enjoy the unusually warm weather under the cover of large tents.

Over 30 veterans attended the lunch.
