Washington School Enrolls in Healthy U

Students at Nutley’s Washington School have taken a lesson in healthy living.

For the fifth year in a row, the Meadowlands Y is helping Washington School students learn healthy life practices through their Healthy U program.

Washington is one of 24 New Jersey schools in the program, which seeks to promote healthy living for themselves and their families.

Healthy U promotes physical activity and good nutrition through fun, interactive lessons. 

“Healthy U is integrated into our school day Washington School Principal Doug Jones said in an email. "Through this Horizon Foundation grant, we can provide additional, and complementary, health education while promoting a culture of wellness that can improve academic performance and increase student health. The partnership with Meadowlands Y has been instrumental in this launch.”

Healthy U is funded by a grant from the Horizon Foundation for New Jersey, a division of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield. Since 2008, the Horizon Foundation for New Jersey has invested $3.45 million in the Healthy U initiative.
