Kids from William Annin Middle School band performed Rutgers' fight song, 'The Bells Must Ring' Saturday at Rutgers' game against Liberty.
BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Some local students performed on a big stage Saturday.
Musicians from Basking Ridge's William Annin Middle School performed the Rutgers University football team's fight song, "The Bells Must Ring," at the game against Liberty.
The performance kicked off an annual contest where all New Jersey middle school bands are invited to learn the song for a chance to perform it live on the field next year.

"The idea behind it is that there's such a long history and tradition in Big Ten schools and Big Ten bands," said Todd Nichols, Rutgers' director of athletic bands. "If you're near those schools, you're born knowing about the football teams, school colors, and fight song."
