Bernardsville Couple Fulfill Dream To Open Frozen Custard Shop

Clarisa and Thomas Vigneault are fulfilling a childhood dream to open a Meadows Frozen Custard in Somerville on June 21.

SOMERVILLE, NJ — Since growing up in western Pennsylvania it has been a childhood dream of Thomas Vigneault to open his very own frozen custard shop. On June 21, that dream will become a reality.

Bernardsville couple Clarisa and Thomas Vigneault are opening Meadows Frozen Custard at 92 W Main St. in Somerville. The family-run franchise location will give all customers who visit on opening day a free small cone.

The franchise started in 1950 in Duncansville, Pennsylvania with a small custard stand then a store was built in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. Now they have 28 stores. The Somerville location will be the second in New Jersey.

“It has always been Thomas’ dream of opening up one since he was little growing up in western Pennsylvania and going to Meadows every day,” Clarisa said.

Clarisa’s parents also previously owned a restaurant in Pluckemin. Putting together his dream and her family experience, the couple saw Downtown Somerville as the perfect place to open up shop.

“We love the atmosphere in Somerville,” said Clarisa. “We love the downtown vibe. It’s not only for adults but family-oriented as well.”

The couple will be serving up vanilla and chocolate custard every day with two special flavors of the day. Their most popular are chocolate peanut butter and White House cherry. There will also be a flavor of frozen yogurt for the week.

The shop will also sell custard cakes, Italian ice, milkshakes, frozen yogurt, arctic swirls and a special small cup of custard for dogs to enjoy while their owners eat a cone.

A walk-up window will also be installed for moms with strollers or for those who are walking their furry friends and can’t come inside.
