Center for Contemporary Art Celebrates New Flooring

The center held a ribbon cutting to celebrate new gallery floors.

The Center for Contemporary Art held a ribbon cutting May 9 to celebrated its new gallery floors.

The center had launched a fundraising campaign in the fall to replace its gallery carpeting with new hardwood flooring, and raised about one half of the amount needed, according to a release. In March, a request was submitted to Home Depot in Bridgewater for assistance in the form of a donation of flooring materials and labor.

Home Depot, the release said, secured a donation of hardwood flooring from Armstrong World Industries, and volunteers from the store assisted with the installation.

The floors were installed in time for two spring exhibits opening April 5.

"The public’s first introduction to The Center is often a visit to view an art exhibit or attend an event held in the galleries," said executive director Elie Porter Trubert in the release. "We can now welcome the public, our students and members with enormous pride. We are grateful for the support of Home Depot and the oversight of Kristen Munguia, assistant store manager, without which this project could not have come to life.”

Munguia said in the release that the store is always looking to help others.

"The Home Depot company as a whole is always looking for opportunities to give back to the community," she said in the release. "The center came to the store in need of new flooring, I was very excited to help. On a personal level, I was all for the project emotionally. My entire family is very talented in the arts. Keeping the arts alive within all generations, really hits close to home.”
