Colonial & Victorian Christmas Customs

Learn about the customs of a Colonial Christmas and a Victorian Christmas celebration and differences between them.

Decorations of holly and mistletoe, gingerbread and caroling—these are just a few of the Christmas customs that have been handed down from earlier times. At Bernardsville Public Library on Monday, December 18 at 7:00 pm, find out the similarities and differences between a Colonial Christmas and a Victorian Christmas celebration, and discover what foods were prepared and enjoyed as part of the holiday festivities. Listeners will enjoy refreshments of those times and some of the customs too.

This program will be presented by Judith Krall-Russo, a food historian and tea expert. She has enjoyed a lifelong love of foods, especially embracing the rich agriculture of her home state of New Jersey.

This program is underwritten by the Friends of the Bernardsville Library. There is no charge to attend, but advance sign-up is requested. Register online at www.bernardsvillelibrary.org and follow the link from Adult Programs, or call the library at 908-766-0118 to sign up.
