Fourth Annual NJ Makers Day at Bernardsville Library

Celebrate the maker culture with free workshops for children and adults. Advance registration is required.

Join us at Bernardsville Public Library on Saturday, March 10 to take part in the fourth annual New Jersey Makers Day. On this day, communities around the state offer hands-on programming opportunities, demonstrations and displays celebrating the maker culture. In 2017, NJ Makers Day drew over 85,000 individual attendees to more than 300 participating sites across all 21 counties in the state!

This year, at Bernardsville Library, we’ll have workshops for both children and adults, and members of the Bernards High School Robotics Team will demonstrate their activities in the rotunda. The Library's Saturday Crafters group will also meet at 11:00 am in the small meeting room to work on their projects. There is no charge to participate in any of the programs; advance sign-up is required for all of them at www.bernardsvillelibrary.org. Here’s what’s on tap:

For adults, there will be a workshop to make hand-crafted, scented soap at 10:00 am. Participants will take a bar of sweet smelling soap home with them. All materials will be provided. Space is limited and advance registration is required.

In the afternoon, there will be two sewing workshops for adults–at 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm. Bring an old, but serviceable adult t-shirt or two to cut and sew into a reusable shopping bag! Upcycling can start an adventure of creation with fabric and sewing. Attendees will also learn about the parts of a sewing machine and how to mend minor rips and tears in clothes. To try out their skill at hand sewing, they can also stitch together some sweet smelling sachet bags. Materials, other than the t-shirts, will be provided. Space is limited and advance registration is required.

There will be lots of fun for children too. Come for the Engineering Challenge with Bricks 4 Kidz at 11:00 am. This program for children ages five to ten, will include creativity, problem-solving and building motorized LEGO® models using proprietary model plans. Space is limited. Advance registration is required and opens February 24.
