Ground Broken On Jersey City Park
The Coles Street Park will have a stage for live music and events, an enclosed playground, 2 dog runs, and open green space.
JERSEY CITY, NJ — A new park is coming to Coles Street, Jersey City officials announced.
More than one acre of land between 16th and 18th streets will be transformed into a $2 million park.
Construction begins this week, Mayor Steven Fulop said. The park will have a stage for live music and events, an enclosed playground, two dog runs, and open green space. Officials anticipate the park will be completed sometime next year.

Fulop said city officials have been committed to expanding the city's park's system.
"Since we took office we have consistently said that there were many things that needed to change in Jersey City to lift the city to the next level, including affordable housing, more investments away from the waterfront, better schools, safer streets, and more parks," Fulop said.

The project is part of a community benefit agreement with the Jersey City Redevelopment Authority. Manhattan Building Company is constructing the park.
"We are extremely excited to commence the construction of Coles Street Park. This Park is exactly what the residents of the neighborhood need and deserve," said Manhattan Building Company President Sandy Weiss. "We are grateful to have a forward thinking administration that recognizes the need for preservation of open space, especially in an urban setting."
