NJ Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal Joins Biden At Roundtable

The meeting was about local efforts to combat gun violence and support community-violence intervention programming.

NEW JERSEY — Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal joined President Joe Biden at a round table this week to discuss local efforts to combat gun violence and support community-violence intervention programming.

The roundtable took place at the Roosevelt Room, in the West Wing of the White House, on Wednesday.

Grewal emphasized the importance of federal-state partnerships to disrupt illegal firearm trafficking, share intelligence on crime guns, and support hospital-based violence intervention programs, the Attorney General Office said in a statement.

At a state level, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and Grewal are leading a statewide effort to reduce gun deaths, combining evidence-based policing strategies with community-based prevention programs.

Earlier this week, the Attorney General announced $165,000 would be made available in grants to support police programs that foster stronger community relations.

Grewal summarized his approach to this issue in three main points: Treating the root causes of violence, keeping guns away from those most likely to harm others and taking swift action against those who break the law.
