Somerset, NJ – As Somerset County endures another heat wave, the Somerset County Park Commission is opening its Spray Park at Colonial Park for the first time since the COVID pandemic struck. The park first opened in 2019 to great fanfare and enjoyment, but sadly had to rest unused through the pandemic in 2020. The 21-unit Spray Park is located behind the Morgan Pellowski Playground and in close proximity to the Putting Course and Paddle Boats.

“We have a hot streak of weather leading into the 4th of July weekend, and the reopening of the Colonial Park Spray Park couldn’t have come at a better time,” said Mark Caliguire, Somerset County Park Commission President. “Families can come to Colonial Park to enjoy some mini-golf at the putting course, take a spin in the paddle boats, walk the award-winning gardens, and when they need to cool off head over to the spray park with their kids for a respite.”
The 6,500 square foot Spray Park on 1.6 acres is a children-only facility with parents permitted to accompany small children. Children and their parents or guardians will be able to cool off during the heat wave from noon to 8:00 p.m. every day until Labor Day, September 6. After that the spray park will be open weekends from noon to 7:00 p.m. until September 26.

The Spray Park’s opening was delayed after inspections in the late spring found that the pandemic layoff resulted in some mechanical and other issues with the park. However, the park has been restored to its full glory and is ready for summer fun for the youth of Somerset County.
