Well Water Testing Available In Bernardsville This Saturday

Test kits should be picked up at the Bernardsville pool on Saturday and returned outside Borough Hall next Thurday.

BERNARDSVILLE, NJ — Ever wonder what's in your tap water and how safe for consumption it is? You can find out this week by having it tested.

The Raritan Headwaters Association, a nonprofit clean water advocate, is coming to town and offering a variety of subsidized water tests.

Residents can pick up a kit at the Bernardsville pool between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. April 24, and return it next Thursday outside Borough Hall, between 8 and 10 a.m.

Pricing varies depending on the type of test. Here are just a few of the available options:

  • Basic Kit ($60) - Includes tests for coliform bacteria, E.Coli, and nitrate.
  • Lead ($25)
  • Iron ($15)
  • Radon ($50)
  • Gross Alpha ($80) - Test for uranium and radium

The Raritan Headwaters Association advises that everyone with homes built before 1987, whether on public water or private well, should test their water for lead, as this can be an issue with the pipes themselves and not the water source.
