The Willow School Helps Pick 5,600 Apples for Families in Need

The Willow School and Central New Jersey Homeschoolers teamed up with America's Grow-A-Row to help hungry families

The Willow School in Gladstone and Central New Jersey Homeschoolers teamed up with America's Grow-A-Row on October 23 to glean apples at Riamede Farm in Chester.

Gleaning apples is not the same as picking apples. Gleaning means that Willow students, teachers, parents, and CNJ homeschoolers worked together to collect the undamaged apples that fell to the ground and would otherwise go to waste. It's a way to feed families in need while avoiding unnecessary food waste, a goal that is perfectly in line with Willow's mission.

Together, the group picked 1,400 pounds of apples, enough for 5,600 servings! The apples were donated to the Community FoodBank of NJ.
