A new senior housing community in Bloomfield is designed to withstand the storm-related damage that took place during Hurricane Sandy.

Bloomfield, NJ – A new senior housing community in Bloomfield is designed to withstand the storm-related damage that took place during Hurricane Sandy, according to developers.

The 82-unit Heritage Village at Bloomfield, located at 390 Franklin Street, is constructed with resiliency features that include cement board exteriors, LED lighting, emergency generators, ground-level bathrooms and showers that are accessible during times of extended power loss and an energy-efficient ventilation system.

Developer Community Investment Strategies noted that after Hurricane Sandy in 2012, nearly 100,000 homes in Bloomfield were without power for several days.

Of the 859 units in Essex County that suffered flood damage, 54 percent served low-to moderate-income households, CIS stated.

According to NJBiz.com, funding for the project includes Low Income Housing Tax Credit equity provided by Boston Capital and JPMorganCHASE. It also includes a construction and permanent loan from the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency and Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Funds.
