2 Face Drug Charges After Brick Police See Driver Using Syringe

A search of the vehicle turned up heroin and cocaine, police said.

BRICK, NJ — Two Jackson men are facing drug possession charges after officers saw one of the men injecting a hypodermic syringe into his arm in a Wawa parking lot on Thursday, Brick police said Friday.

Michael Ritz and Robert Daly, both 27, were in a gray Chevy Equinox in the parking lot of the Wawa at 166 Brick Blvd. on Thursday when detectives from the Brick Township Police Department's Street Crimes Unit saw Ritz, the driver, injecting himself, Sgt. Jim Kelly said.

As Ritz and Daly, his passenger, pulled out of the parking lot to leave, the detectives pulled him over. A search uncovered heroin, cocaine, drug paraphernalia and a hypodermic syringe, Kelly said.

Ritz was charged with possession of heroin, cocaine, and paraphernalia, and several motor vehicle violations including driving under the influence, Kelly said.

Daly was charged with possession of cocaine and paraphernalia, he said.

Both men were released with summonses pending court dates.
