2 Seriously Hurt In Route 70-Van Zile Crash In Brick

BRICK, NJ — Two Brick Township residents were seriously injured Sunday evening in two-car crash on Route 70 that ejected one from a car, Brick Township police said Monday.

Dashawn King, 24, and Clara Boothe, 58, both of Brick, both suffered head injuries in the crash at the intersection of Route 70 and Van Zile Road that happened shortly before 7 p.m., Sgt. Keith Donnelly said.

King was ejected from his car due to the force of the crash, he said.

Police believe King ran a red light at Route 70 as he was driving north on Van Zile Road.

King's car, a blue 2003 Honda Element, wound up in the path of a black 2012 Buick Verano that Boothe was driving west on Route 70 at the time.

The force of the crash caused both cars to spin violently, throwing King from his car. He was found lying in the road, Donnelly said.

King and Boothe were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center's trauma unit by by the Brick Township Police Emergency Medical Services and MONOC paramedics.

The crash investigation shut down Route 70 for about three hours between Morris Avenue and Van Zile and Van Zile from Route 70 to Hendrickson Boulevard.

Donnelly, Patrolman Gerald Lampiasi and Patrolman David Thergesen of the Traffic Safety Unit along with the Ocean County Prosecutors Office’s Fatal Accident Investigation Unit are continuing to investigate.
