3,000 Homes Without Power In Manchester Amid Storm

The cause of the power outage was not immediately clear; police urge residents not to call emergency numbers unless there is an emergency.

MANCHESTER, NJ — More than 3,000 homes were without power on Monday afternoon in the Whiting section of Manchester in the midst of a nor'easter that was dropping significant snow across much of New Jersey.

The Manchester Township Police Department sent out a Nixle alert about the power outage, urging residents to not call the police about the outage unless they have a police, fire or medical emergency.

Police said Jersey Central Power & Light officials have not given an estimate of when power will be restored.

JCP&L's outage center said the power outage was caused by a motor vehicle crash but it was not clear when the crash happened. A message to the police department seeking confirmation and details was not immediately answered.
