Brick Byclist Struck, Injured In 'Serious' Crash: Police

Daniel Meza was propelled onto the hood and windshield of the car, police said.

BRICK, NJ - A 38-year-old Brick cyclist is recovering from a "serious" collision with a car Saturday morning, according to police.

According to the Brick Township Police, Emmanuel Cardona, 28, was driving a blue 2019 Honda Accord on Hooper Avenue when she struck Daniel Meza on his bike as he was attempting to cross Hooper Avenue heading west from the parking lot of 2775 Hooper Ave.

Meza crossed the roadway into the path of the Honda and was struck, landing on the hood of the car, rolling into the windshield and falling off to the pavement when the car came to a stop, police said.

Meza was treated at the scene and transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, with head, back and lower leg injuries, police said.

The Brick Township Police Department’s Patrol Units and Emergency Medical Services along with Paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital responded to the scene.

The Brick Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety and Identification Units responded to investigate, photograph and process the crash scene.

Traffic in the two northbound lanes on Hooper Avenue were diverted around the crash for approximately two hours during the investigation.

An ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Brick Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit. Anyone who may have witnessed or who has information pertaining to the crash is asked to contact Patrolman Jay Lampiasi at (732) 262-1141.
