Brick Father, Son Face Drug Charges After Stop: Police

BRICK, NJ — Two Brick Township men are facing drug charges after police saw a drug transaction in the Walmart parking lot on Tuesday, Brick police said.

Scott Butler, 58, and Scott Butler Jr., 28, were arrested after authorities pulled over their vehicle after detectives with the police department's Street Crimes Unit witnessed the transaction, Sgt. Jim Kelly said Thursday.

Detectives saw a hand-to-hand transaction between two vehicles in the parking lot, then both left the area. The detectives stopped the Butlers' vehicle for traffic violations, but the other vehicle left the area and police were not able to find it, Kelly said.

The investigation found heroin, cocaine, used syringes, and various other forms of paraphernalia, he said.

Scott Butler, who was driving, was charged with possession of cocaine drug paraphernalia and was issued traffic summonses, Kelly said. Scott Butler Jr. was charged with possession of cocaine, heroin, hypodermic syringes, and drug paraphernalia, and both were released on summonses, he said.
