Brick Schools Shift To Remote Learning For Monday

With icy driving conditions anticipated for the morning, district officials moved instruction to fully remote.

BRICK, NJ — A winter storm that dropped several inches of snow across New Jersey on Sunday has prompted Brick Township School District officials to shift to remote instruction for Monday's classes.

The National Weather Service forecast was for snow and slush to turn icy overnight as temperatures drop, making driving hazardous on Monday.

The district does not have any emergency closing days built into the school calendar this year, and would have to extend the school year to make up for the day if not for the remote instruction, officials said.

"Since we have the ability to have the school day count by offering a remote-learning option ... this will allow us to maintain the continuity of instruction, while keeping students and staff members safe at home," officials said.

Elementary and middle school students will follow their usual Monday schedule, while preschool and high school students will follow their typical Friday schedule, which is fully remote.

Brick had received 3.5 inches of snow by 4 p.m., according to a report from a trained spotter to the weather service.
