Brick Weighs Using Snow Days Amid Coronavirus Crisis

Wednesday's winter storm forecast includes the possibility of snow, but it may or may not translate to a day off for the Brick schools.

BRICK, NJ — A shifting and uncertain forecast says the Jersey Shore may or may not get snow on Wednesday.

If the area does get snow, it's not a guarantee of a snow day for Brick Township students and staff in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

"Depending on the updated forecast, we would most likely start with announcing a 'virtual snow day,' " Superintendent Thomas G. Farrell said.

A "virtual snow day" would mean students would all have remote classes and staff in the district all would work remotely, Farrell said. "If we were to totally give off for a "snow day" we would announce that as well."

The Brick Township School District does not have any emergency weather closure days built into the school calendar, so any snow days will be added to the end of the school year in June.

The school district is operating on a hybrid schedule, with most students attending in-person classes twice a week and receiving remote instruction the other three days.
