Brick Woman Dies In Manchester Crash

Authorities are trying to determine why her SUV ran off Beckerville Road and crashed.

MANCHESTER, NJ — A Brick Township woman has died after her SUV ran off the road and hit a tree on Beckerville Road on Thursday, Manchester police said Friday.

Lynda Brown, 60, was found unresponsive in her gray 2012 Ford Escape after the crash that happened just before 5:30 p.m., Manchester Capt. Todd Malland said. The road was closed for several hours while authorities responded and investigated.

The Escape was headed west on Beckerville Road when it went crossed the centerline and ran off the road and hit a utility pole and a tree on the south side of the road, not far from the intersection with Route 70, Malland said.

Brown was not wearing her seatbelt, but both front and side curtain airbags deployed, he said. She was unresponsive when first responders arrived and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash and the manner of death remain under investigation, Malland said.

Manchester Township EMTs and paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital responded, along with the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department, Joint Base Fire Department, the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Unit.

Patrolman Michael O'Hara of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit is investigating.
