Brick Woman Killed In Lanes Mill Road Crash: Police

Police are seeking witnesses to the crash near Greenwood Loop Road that injured two other people Sunday morning.

BRICK, NJ — Authorities are seeking information in a two-vehicle crash that killed a Brick Township woman and injured two others on Sunday morning.

Nancy Penrod, 78, died of injuries she suffered in the crash, Brick Sgt. Keith Donnelly said Sunday.

She was a passenger in a tan 2014 Dodge Caravan driven by Terry Penrod, 78, that was involved in a collision with a blue 2011 Toyota Camry driven by Ashley Watkins, 30, of Brick, Donnelly said.

The crash happened on Lanes Mill Road near Greenwood Loop Road and was reported at 9:44 a.m., he said.

Nancy Penrod was not breathing when police arrived, and though life-savings measures were attempted by police and continued by Brick EMS and paramedics on the way to Ocean Medical Center, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital, Donnelly said.

Terry Penrod suffered a head injury and injuries to his extremities was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Watkins was treated at Ocean Medical Center for injuries to her extremities and released, he said.

Lanes Mill Road was closed for several hours from Greenwood Loop Road to Kirk Lane while the Brick Police Traffic Safety Unit, Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Crime Investigation Unit conducted the preliminary investigation into the crash.

Donnelly said the circumstances are still under investigation and asks anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact Officer David Thergesen of the Traffic Safety Unit at 732-262-1140 or trafficsafety@brickpd.com.
