Brick's David Feeley Named University Of Miami Strength Coach

Feeley, a 1999 graduate of Brick, has been working as a strength and conditioning coach in college football for more than a decade.

MIAMI — David Feeley has been sharing the lessons learned on the football fields of Brick Township with athletes in various parts of the country for more than a decade.

Now he's taking those messages of work ethic and team focus to the University of Miami. Feeley, a 1999 graduate of Brick Township High School, has been hired as the Hurricanes' new director of strength and conditioning for football, Manny Diaz, the head coach of the Miami football team, announced Saturday.

Feeley spent the last two seasons at Temple University and is entering his 14th season in college football.

"David is an outstanding coach who has a strong track record of motivating players to help them reach their full potential," Diaz said. "The culture we're putting into place and the tone we set for the upcoming season starts in the weight room when our players return to campus. That's why this hire was so critical and I'm thrilled to welcome David to the Miami program."

Feeley helped the Owls compile a 15-11 record and advance to two bowls in his two seasons in Philadelphia. Prior to Temple, he was the assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of South Carolina for one season, where the Gamecocks earned a bid to the Birmingham Bowl.

He caught the attention of national media when he was the director of football strength and conditioning at Ball State from 2011-15. During that time, he helped the Cardinals earn two bowl appearances and also assisted with the women's basketball team that made three consecutive NIT appearances. His "Hulk Smash" workout caught the eye of ESPN and earned him a feature on "College Football Gameday" in 2015.

"As a strength coach, you're spending 75 percent of the year with the athletes," Feeley said in 2015 interview. "It's my job to preach (the head coach's) vision for the program while he is on recruiting trips and out scouting teams."

From 2008-2010 Feeley was the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Florida International, which went 7-6 and won the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl in 2010, the first bowl win in FIU's program history. Feeley also assisted with women's tennis, softball and baseball during his three years at FIU.

Feeley, a 2004 graduate of Plymouth State University, began his professional career as an intern at Rutgers and South Florida before becoming the strength and conditioning graduate assistant for football, women's track, softball and baseball at UNLV from 2006-07.

He was inducted into the Brick Township High School Wall of Fame in August 2018. He and his wife, Ann Marie, have two children.
