Fatal Crash On Herbertsville Road in Brick

Police say the driver and a passer-by performed CPR on the pedestrian to try to save his life.

BRICK, NJ — A Brick man died Monday evening after being hit by a vehicle while trying to cross Herbertsville Road, police said.

The accident happened at 5:52 p.m. when two men were walking north in the shoulder of Herbertsville Road in front of Havens Farm, Brick Patrolman Gerald Lampiasi said.

A 2013 Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 26-year-old Brick woman was traveling south on Herbertsville Road when both men tried cross the road, police said. The car struck one of the pedestrians, a 51-year-old Brick man.

The car then ran off the road and came to a stop in the wooded area near the entrance to Havens Farm, Lampiasi said.

A passerby and the driver attempted CPR on the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Herbertsville Road was closed for more than three hours from Sawmill Road to Maple Avenue Monday evening while police investigated the crash.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has information pertaining to the crash is asked to contact Patrolman David Thergesen at 732-262-1140.
