In addition, his girlfriend, Reyna Mendez, 27, of Jackson, has been charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution, after detectives determined she gave false information in connection with the investigation. Mendez was released pending a future court date.
Investigators have determined Alcazar-Sanchez was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado that was involved in the crash with a 2010 Mercedes Benz driven by Norman Shtab, 83, of Howell. Shtab was turning from the Interstate 195 exit ramp at Exit 21 left onto Cedar Swamp Road about 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve when the crash happened, authorities said.
