BRICK, NJ — Residents and motorists are warned that part of Princeton Avenue will be closed on weekdays for the next few weeks while the Ocean County Utilities Authority does an emergency pipeline replacement, Brick Township police said Monday.

The road will be closed between Parker Avenue and 4th Street all day Monday through Friday until the work is finished, police said. The area of the closure is between Midstreams Road and Beaver Dam Road.

Residents of the streets affected by the closure will be allowed access. All others will be detoured onto Parker Avenue.

Princeton Avenue will be reopened each weekend, police said.

The project is an emergency replacement of a force main, which is a pressurized sewer pipe that moves wastewater in situations where moving it using gravity isn't possible. Pumps or compressors push the sewage through the force main from lower to higher elevations or across landscapes where deep excavation is not feasible, according to Trenchlesspedia.com.

The work is expected to take about three weeks, as long as the weather permits.

"Keeping the road closed will allow for the work to be completed as soon as possible, thereby improving critical infrastructure and easing the impact that construction presents to our residents during the spring and summer," police said.
