Funeral Services Set For Former Brick Teacher James Brosius

He was a fifth-grade teacher and worked for the Brick school district for 33 years, according to his obituary.

BRICK, NJ -- Funeral services have been set for Wednesday and Thursday for James R. Brosius of Brick, a longtime teacher in the Brick Township School District, who passed away on Monday, Dec. 14. He was 84.

According to his obituary on the Colonial Funeral Home website, Mr. Brosius was born in Frackville, Pa., and attended West Mahanoy Township Schools. He served proudly in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

Mr. Brosius received his bachelor of science degree from Bloomsburg University and his master of science degree from Monmouth University. He taught in the Brick Township School System for 33 years. He was a well-respected and beloved fifth-grade teacher. James was awarded the Valley Forge Freedom Foundation Medal in 1976. He was author of “Home is the Battlefield,” a novel about a New Jersey youth during the American Revolution.

Mr. Brosius managed the Brick Township Little League Tigers. He was an ardent Philadelphia sports fan, especially devoted to the Eagles and Phillies. He loved visiting Italy with his wife and family. Puccinni operas brought him much joy, as did his adoring cat, Asia.

Mr. Brosius was predeceased by his high school sweetheart and wife of 58 years, Theresa, and his son James E. Brosius. He is survived by his daughter, Angela Ret and her husband, Ed; grandchildren Adam DiAngelo, Lauren Moore and her husband Steve, Julie DiDomenico and her husband Adam, James A. Brosius, Robert Brosius and his wife Vega, daughters-in-law, Michele Wernsing and Jane Colona; and great-granddaughters Tess and Suzanne Moore.

“Jim will be greatly missed by his many friends and family. We love you Papa and will miss you dearly,” his obituary said.

Visiting hours are Wednesday, Dec. 16, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Highway 88, Brick. Family and friends can gather at the funeral home on Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be Thursday 12:30 p.m. at the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
