If getting scared is your idea of the best way to spend Halloween, here are some local spots to get your scare on this weekend and through Halloween in Ocean County.
From haunted houses to haunted trails there's fun nearby — if being scared is your idea of fun, of course.

NIGHTMARE AT GRAVITY HILL

Explore the abandoned ghost town of Gravity Hill, its graveyard and its haunted fields. Experience the otherworldly powers that make up the curse of Gravity Hill, featuring an extensive cast of terrifying ghouls, zombies, creepy clowns and other denizens of the night. There are more than a dozen different scenes and settings spread out over 5 acres, with 35 minutes of spine-chilling walkable haunted trails and creepy themes and adventures.

Take your chances with three terrifying haunted attractions. There's Jacob Sneed’s Carnival of Chaos, seeking to tempt hapless victims into its gates. Sneed gained immortality after slashing his own throat, but the price: collecting souls, including yours. There's Twisted Tales, a walk through the stories of your childhood fairy tales. This isn't how you remembered them. And then there's Blackened: The Plague. The apocalypse has turned Ravenshire into a grotesque, violent place. Will you escape or join The Empty?

Visit New Jersey's first traveling side show and be amazed as you meet Morbus, the Aquatic Fish Boy. See Algano, the Amphibious Lizard Man, complete with scales and a slimy coat. And the greatest attraction: Mongo the Human Mutant. Grotesquely deformed, one might debate if Mongo is human at all. Completely devoid of all ability to learn and function in the human world, Mongo has known nothing but sideshow life since his birth. Be careful as you approach him however he can be as dangerous as he is unusual.

In the crisp autumn evenings, an evil descends upon and blankets the otherwise peaceful woods of Jackson. Ride through the darkness on the Haunted Hayride, then traverse the Dead End Corn Maze. If you escape the maze, you may want to check out the Psycho Path. Stay close to the group; the danger comes when you least expect it. Try the new escape challenge, Buried Alive. Do you have what it takes to get locked in a seal tight coffin for 3 minutes and escape before the gravediggers bury you alive?

There are five attractions to scare you. Take a haunted hayride and see and hear the creatures hiding in the woods. Walk through the haunted barn and watch out for the creatures clinging to the walls waiting for their next victim. The haunted wooded trail will take you to the depths of New Jersey’s back woods. Stay close to the group! And then travel the Living Maze. When you're done — or separately — help exterminate the zombies in Zombie Paintball.
