A Love Letter To Allan

This couple's happy life together began with a mix up in the papers.

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, we asked Patch readers to write a love letter to that special someone and let us deliver it. This is Evelyn Zucker’s love letter to her husband, Allan:

My story started in 1988 when I received a phone call from a man answering an ad in the paper. It was a wrong number but we started a short conversation when he insisted he bring the paper to show me and that he wasn't a crank caller. After a time I said okay, just figuring I'd get rid of him. He did show up with the paper, had a cup of coffee and left. Several days later, he again called and asked to take me out. I said I couldn't go out because my mother was very sick and I couldn't leave her alone. About a week later he came over, had dinner, talked for a while then left.

For the next two years he showed up every night and weekends to help me with my mother as she slowly was dying of cancer. After work, he never left my side. A year after her death he asked me to marry him. I was totally surprised and a loss for words. His only request was that we get married in Florida because his mother wasn't doing well and he wanted to her to meet me and for her to be at our wedding.

Now, my letter:

My Dearest Allan,

From deep within my heart I thank you so much for that phone call. You became the angel on my shoulder that was sent by God above. You have given me 28 years of pure joy and happiness that no one could ever understand. We have shared many ups and downs, laughter and tears and some heartache, but you are my rock.

Joining together two grown families wasn't easy at times but with your steadfast commitment and loyalty we have made it work. We watched our respective children get married and recently our grandchildren starting to get married. We have made our home into our own little sanctuary that is our place to spend the rest of our remaining years. You are an amazing wonderful person who deserves only the best of what life has to offer and what little I can repay you for. You have created for us so many memories that will last a lifetime and forever I am so grateful.

All my love to you, today, tomorrow and the rest of our lives,

Evelyn
