Motorcyclist Dies After Brick Boulevard Crash: Police

The fatal crash closed Brick Boulevard's northbound lanes for about five hours, police said.

BRICK, NJ — A motorcyclist died Saturday following a crash that shut Brick Boulevard's northbound lanes for about five hours, Brick police said.

Ronald Tucci, 70, of Brick, died at Jersey Shore University Medical Center of the injuries he suffered in the crash that happened shortly after 3:30 p.m. just south of Beaverson Boulevard, Sgt. Keith Donnelly said.

Tucci was driving a 2013 black Harley-Davidson north on Brick Boulevard in the right lane when he started to change lanes to the left to pass a vehicle that was ahead of him, Donnelly said.

At the same time, Daina Massarelli, 30, of East Hanover, was driving north on Brick Boulevard in a white 2018 Honda Accord, and switched lanes to the right, from what was becoming the left-turn lane to stay in the through-lane, he said.

Tucci tried to brake to avoid a collision but hit the right rear of the Accord and the impact threw Tucci from his motorcycle, Donnelly said. He suffered lower body and internal injuries and was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Neither Massarelli nor her passenger, Jeanne Massarelli, 63, of Brick, were injured, Donnelly said.

The Brick Township Police Department patrol officers and and Emergency Medical Services along with Robert Wood Johnson paramedics responded, along with the poilce department's Traffic Safety Unit.

Patrolman Jay Lampiasi and Patrolman David Thergesen are investigating. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has information about the crash is asked to call Lampiasi at 732-262-1141.
