BRICK, NJ — Ocean Ice Palace, which has been owned by the Dwulet family since 1962, will be starting a new chapter after July 31.

"After almost 60 years of Family Owned & Operated businesses, Ocean Ice Palace & Ocean Hockey Supply will be closing their doors at the end of this month," the Dwulet family said in a post on the Ocean Ice Palace Facebook page on Tuesday. "We are extremely thankful to all the friends who have become family and customers who have become friends over the years. The decision was not made lightly and certainly not without being given much thought."

That post has since been taken down.

The rink on Chambers Bridge Road, built in 1962 by Dr. Leon J. Dwulet, is owned by his daughter, Joan Dwulet. It is managed by Raven and Andrew Barten; Raven is Joan's daughter.

Messages left for Raven and Andrew Barten at the rink and by email were not answered.

Word that the ice rink was closing sparked hundreds of comments on social media as people reminisced about everything from concerts to high school and club hockey championships.

It also prompted speculation about the future of the property, which is assessed at more than $5.7 million.

The property is zoned B-3, which is the highway development zone. Continuing its use as an ice rink is a permitted use in the highway development zone.

No additional details on the impending sale were immediately available.
