Ocean County's COVID Cases: See Town-By-Town Updates
Ocean County remains in the orange zone; the rate of cases has ticked up in recent weeks, according to data from the county and state.
OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — Ocean County's coronavirus case rate crept up slightly over the last week, the first rise in a few weeks (see town-by-town totals below).
Ocean County recorded 56,036 cases of the coronavirus through Friday, according to the Ocean County Health Department. That is an increase of 1,446 cases, or 2.6 percent, from March 13, when 54,590 were reported.
The disease's impact is reflected in the state Department of Health's most recent "COVID-19 Activity Level Report," which is issued weekly. The most recent report, released Thursday, says Ocean County remains in the "orange zone."

If the county is in the "orange" zone, it means it has a rate of 10 to 25 cases per 100,000 people. "Yellow" means the county has a rate 1 to 10 cases per 100,000 people.

Ocean County is in New Jersey's Central East region. Its case rate rose for the week ending March 13, to 36.63 cases per 100,000 people. That rate is up from 28.54 reported three weeks ago and falls into the "very high" zone.

Other metrics have inched up, with the percentage of COVID-like illnesses up to 6.46, from 5.25 three weeks ago, and the percent positivity is at 8.50, up from 8.09 three weeks ago.

The uptick comes as no surprise, as the state has relaxed restrictions on a number of activities.
The cumulative town-by-town totals as of March 19 are below. The number in parentheses shows the number of cases from the week before.
Ocean County has had 1,801 residents who have died of complications from the coronavirus. There have been no deaths in those 18 and under; there were 31 people age 19 to 44; 227 age 45 to 64; 3330 age 65 to 74; 562 age 75 to 84, and 651 people who were 85 or older have died, according to the county health department. The youngest person from Ocean County who died was 20 years old, and the oldest was 103.
The health department's data does not include a breakdown of how many people who died had underlying conditions other than to say that heart disease was a significant contributing factor.
On the town by town numbers, if the town shows a decrease this week, it reflects a correction based on the person's actual address as opposed to the mailing address.
