BRICK, NJ — A powerful storm that ripped through Ocean County left trees down and took out powerlines on Tuesday afternoon, and police were urging motorists to avoid Herbertsville Road and Old Hooper Avenue in the aftermath.

Dozens of residents flooded the National Weather Service Mount Holly office's Facebook page with photos of damage and comments about the storm. Photos showed trees and damage to homes across Ocean County.

Brick Township police were flooded with phone calls for about half an hour after the storm, which moved through between 3 and 4 p.m. There were no reports of injuries, Sgt. Jim Kelly said.

Though people have speculated there was a tornado, meteorologists from the National Weather Service have made no such determination.

Old Hooper Avenue was closed from Brick Boulevard to Cedar Bridge Avenue, and Herbertsville Road was closed between Concord Drive and Andover Road, both due to poles down with wires in the road.
