Storm Brings Down Trees, Wires; 20K Without Power In Brick

Strong winds brought down trees and power lines in the northern part of Brick Township on Monday.

BRICK, NJ — Trees and power lines are down throughout Ocean County as a powerful thunderstorm wreaked havoc on Monday evening, leaving thousands of homes and businesses in Brick without electricity.

Jersey Central Power & Light reported more than 28,000 homes and businesses out of 35,822 were without power at the peak of the storm, but residents said some neighborhoods listed as out, including Lake Riviera, never lost power.

Crews were working through the night to restore power but JCP&L did not have an estimate of when it would be restored due to the extensive damage.

Ocean County Scanner News reported there was a small tree brought down at the Smashburger restaurant in Brick Plaza, and shared a photo of a large tree that hit the side of a home in Lions Head South.

More than 85,000 homes and businesses were without power in Ocean County, including more than 16,000 in Lakewood and more than 17,000 in Jackson Township at the peak. Almost all of Mantoloking and Bay Head were without power as well.
