BRICK, NJ — Break out your lawn chairs: SummerFest is back.

If you're looking to get an early start on the 4th of July weekend, Windward Beach Park is set to be alive with music and food trucks and fireworks on Thursday evening.

Brick Township officials tried to preserve SummerFest as an activity during the pandemic in the summer of 2020, but outdoor gathering restrictions forced the township to cancel the popular concert series, which has been held for more than 25 years.

"While we were disappointed that last year's series was canceled, we all know it was the right thing in light of the crisis we were in," Mayor John G. Ducey said. "Now, we are ready to make up for lost time and have the best SummerFest yet!"

The group Super Trans Am kicks off the summer series, making their first appearance at SummerFest. They play arena anthems and chart-topping radio hits of the 1970s from artists such as Eagles, Hall & Oates, Queen, the Doobie Brothers, Foreigner, KISS, Boston, Journey and more.

Food trucks are back, as is the beer and wine garden for those 21 and older. You must have a valid ID to enter the beer and wine garden.

The concerts begin about 7 p.m. and fireworks follow each concert.

Because of the popularity of the event and limited parking at Windward Beach Park, shuttle buses again will be available.

There are four sites to get the shuttles — Brick Township High School, Drum Point Elementary School, Veterans Memorial Middle School and Brick Memorial High School — and they take passengers to Windward Beach from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Return trips from Windward Beach begin at 9 p.m. and continue until everyone has been returned to their pick-up locations.

Shuttle bus patrons are reminded that the state requires masks to be worn on all mass transit, and that includes the shuttle buses. Riders will be required to comply with mask rules.
