Attempted Car Burglary In West Caldwell Caught On Video: Police
A call from an "alert resident" led to the arrest of two men in West Caldwell, authorities said.
WEST CALDWELL, NJ — A call from an “alert resident” led to the arrest of two men in West Caldwell on Sunday, authorities said.
The West Caldwell Police Department released the following details about the incident:
“Just before 2 a.m. this morning, headquarters received a call from an alert resident who observed two males wandering back and forth between properties in the area of Westover Avenue. Officers responded to the area and located the individuals in question. While investigating the suspicious males, headquarters received an additional call from a resident on Woodrow Place reporting two males on video attempting to break into their parked vehicle. Officers responded and viewed the video confirming the attempted burglary and also confirmed that the identity of the actors was the same as the individuals being investigated on Westover Avenue.”
West Caldwell police continued:

“Nasir Johnson, 20, and Sharrod Morris, 20, both of Newark, were taken into custody and transported to police headquarters. Johnson and Morris were charged with criminal attempt and hindering apprehension for providing false information. They were later transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility where they will await their detention hearing.”
“This incident was a direct result of the community and the West Caldwell Police Department working together to keep West Caldwell safe,” authorities said.
